Why Carlin Brothers Mercantile?
Back in 2018 we were SO excited to launch Carlin Brother's Coffee. It gave us a tremendous and exciting opportunity to share with you a product we love. As the years have passed our store has expanded to include so many other products we've been excited to curate, design, and share with you. With that we are pleased to announce our new title: Carlin Brothers Mercantile! You can now find all of our products under one roof. We hope this provides a more seamless shopping experience.
COFFEE
How do you source your Coffee?
We work to find only responsibly, sustainably, and ethically sourced beans and teas. This means we look into the grower and try to get to know them as best we can. We try to avoid corporate owned farms and prefer family owned farms or coops. We tend to order organic but in order to assure quality, we reserve the right to order the best bean for the job, even if its not certified organic. When it comes to the coffee, we only order specialty grade coffee.
What is Specialty Grade Coffee?
We order only specialty grade coffee, which is the highest rating coffee can get. To be specialty grade the coffee must be almost entirely free of defects and standout in one attribute. You can learn more at the link below:http://www.coffeeresearch.org/coffee/grade.htm
How fresh are my beans?
Carlin Brothers Coffee is small batch roasted. The beans you order have been roasted as close to shipping as possible to assure maximum freshness. Once opened, we suggest consuming the beans within 2-3 weeks for ideal taste.
Do you offer whole beans and ground beans?
When ordering the coffee beans, you can choose to have the beans come to you whole, or preground. Whenever beans are ground, the quality starts to go down over time due to higher exposure to oxygen. For the best cup of coffee, we suggest ordering whole beans and grinding them yourselves with a "Burr Mill Grinder."
SUBSCRIPTION
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes! Beans, Hot Cocoa, Teas and Candles are available for subscription. You can subscribe to have the item sent to you regularly, as well as selecting the interval and quantity you'd like to receive. You can also swap products, skip orders, or change delivery address at any time by creating an account - the little person looking icon in the top right of the site. Subscribing gets you 10% off every shipment!
You will need to create an account to manage your subscription. Be sure to use the same email address that you used if you already placed your initial subscription order.
SHIPPING
How is my shipping cost determined?
We negotiate the best rates we can with our carriers. The carriers set the rate at checkout based on what's in your cart. We ship all over the world - build your cart and see what shipping options are available to you.
For Domestic US orders, we ship directly to you as quickly as possible using multiple carriers. For Non-US orders, we ship using a consolidation method to ensure each country’s customs protocols are followed correctly which can cause some additional delays. For those orders we do ship custom duties paid, however there may be additional costs required for final delivery that are determined by the destination country and are not covered in your order payment. We appreciate your patience and support!
PRODUCT CARE
How do I wash my mugs and tumblers?
Our mugs and tumblers are top-rack dishwasher safe. As always, dishes that are hand washed tend to last longer.
How do I care for my apparel items?
Regardless of material or directions on garment tags, we recommend using machine wash cold and tumble dry low settings to preserve the longevity of the item.
SWEETS
What is the shelf-life for your sweets products?
Each food product is marked with a best by date. These products are meant to be consumed shortly after receipt. Check each product for the specific best by date.
CANDLES
How do I get the most out of my candle?
Our 20oz candles burn for an average of 130 hours. The burn time is found by keeping wicks trimmed to 1/4in before each burn and only burning for 1-2 hours at a time. Not trimming your wicks will result in less burn time.
GIVING
Carlin Brothers Mercantile is proud to be a corporate partner of Feeding Southwest Virginia. A portion of every order directly benefits the food bank, which helps feed around 94,000 people every month.
